Happy Hour is Back!

My how time flies! September is upon us, kids are back in school and we’re settling into a pre-snowbird routine. It’s a time for locals to get together and socialize a bit. With that in mind, we’re introducing our new bar menu and Happy Hour at Ringo’s. Sometimes, you just don’t want to go straight home after work or it’s been one of those days and you just want to unwind. The bar will be offering a special menu available Tuesday—Friday from 2 p.m. until closing. Happy Hour will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the same days with daily drink specials paired with a bar menu feature.

Be sure to check out our Martini of the week, Beer and Brat night, and .55 cent wing night and our award winning Margarita night!

To help kick off our happy hour, we have Ramon Gonzales from 3 Amigos Tequila coming on Thursday, Sept. 16th to do a tequila tasting and offering some free goodies! Hope you’ll join us during our kick off week and regularly after that! Cheers!

Ringo's..Your Home for LIVE Music!

Ringo's restaurant has been dabbling lately with live music and it's paying off! One of the biggest comments we received consistently is that there is no live music in town. Now there is! Ringo's has hosted some great local talent like Sergio Horcos, Danny Ray Poff, and Matt Kilwein.

We are excited to welcome Holly Jo Samsill accompanied by guitarist Brendan Jacobs. We featured some of Holly's music during our free outdoor movie nith and her sounds definitely turned some heads. Come check out our new menu and enjoy dinner or just a cocktail and listen to this wonderful duo on Friday, August 13th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Meet the New Bar Staff...

Hi! I'm Jeane Soumie and I'm the new face in the bar. Wickenburg has been my winter home for the last nine years and this spring I decided to stay year round. After many years int he cooler climate of Wyoming, I'm adjusting to the "almost always" sunny skies of Arizona.

Wyoming presented some economic challenges and through those challenges I got involved in the service industry and found my true passion. My work experience includes the famous Million Dollar Cowboy Bar and I was one of the first three woman to tend bar at the historic Wort Hotel in Jackson Hole.

I'd also like to introduce another new face at the bar, Stephanie Williams. Stephanie is a local girl some of you may know and we're happy to have her on board with us too. I'm excited to be a Ringo's and I am looking forward to meeting all of you and getting acquainted. Hope to see you soon!

State of the Facility..

It's been a long, long hot summer so far but our staff continues to march forward toward a better product every day! Recently we welcomed our new golf course superintendent Tim Cooper to the club. I know with his knowledge, Tim will take our golf course to a new level! Recently, we also welcomed our new bar manager, Jeane Soumie to the WCC family. Jeane will employ her expertise and professionalism to the bar operation at Ringo's and I can't wait to see what she has in store for our membership!

We are really putting together an excellent team, and with the committed support of Mr. Ringwood, Wickenburg Country Club will be the place everyone will be proud to call home.

Our lunch menu received a face lift a couple of months ago and it has been well received. Beginning, Friday, August 13th, we will be unveiling a completely new dinner menu and concept. To accompany a great dinner, we have been hosting live music every Friday for the last two months. I would like to personally invite you to come over and enjoy a Friday eventing with us. Our friendly staff, exciting new menu options and live music will not disappoint you!

Finally, it's no secret that the economy has taken it's toll on many and the golf industry is no exception. Thank you to all who have faithfully supported us during these tough times. 2010 Two Man Best Ball

Attention Gentlemen:

The 2010 Two Man Best Ball WILL be our premier tournament of the year at Wickenburg Country Club! I promise that you will not want to miss out on this event!

Format: 36 holes - best ball of partners. Combined handicaps of team will determine the flights. October 15th, 2010 handicaps will be used. All players must have a current USGA approved handicap.

Entry Fee: Members of Wickenburg Country Club - $175 / Non Members $225

Entry Fee includes: 2 rounds of tournament golf, 4 dinners on Friday night (2 players plus one guest each), 2 lunches on Sunday afternoon, 2 tee prizes, unlimited range usage, entry in 126 pool and duece pot and other special events!

Moonlight Madness!

Moonlight Madness is coming Saturday, June 19th! If you have ever wanted to try golf in the dark, now is YOUR chance! Wickenburg Country Club is throwing a Moonlight Madness Party sans the moonlight (according to the National Weather Service). Come join us for some great glow-in-the-dark golf, cocktails, hor d' ourves and more! This is not a competition rather it's about having a great time! This event is limited to the first 48 paid players so sign up as soon as possible.

$50 per person or $175 per foursome. WCC Members pay only $35 per person. Entry fees include golf with cart, glow-in-the-dark balls, one free drink and great hor d' ourves.

Cocktails reception and registration begins at 6:30 p.m. and golf begins at approximately 7:30 p.m. Call the golf shop at (928) 684-2011 to register or just stop by! Know someone who maybe interested? Tell a friend! Even if you are not a golfer, come out and watch this event from our patio.. it's a RIOT!!

Happy Spring! We are three months into 2010 and I hope you are enjoying the programs that we are offering at Wickenburg Country Club! The success of this golf club and the ability to move forward to bigger and better days relies heavily on the participation of our Members. Members are the lifeblood of this operation and we thank you for your support. For us to thrive, we need a few more Members though. Our membership drive will conclude on May 15th, 2010, so if you know anyone who would like to be a part of our golfing family, now is the time to bring them aboard! Right now, our initiation fee is $1000 and is scheduled to go back up on May 16th. As a Member, you can earn a $100 credit toward you dues for every membership you refer to Wickenburg Country Club! So if you like where we are heading, tell a friend and let's build our family!

Demo Days

Thank you to those who stopped by for our Ping Demo Day on February 24th! We had a great turn-out and we hope that those who purchased new clubs are realizing success! Don't hesitate to give your professional staff a call if we need to "tweak" things a bit for you. We will be hosting another demo day very soon featuring Nike! More details to come soon...

Also, I would like to thank our golf course supertintendent, Gary Albrecht and his crew for all of the detailing around the golf course. The perimeters and hazards around the course are looking great and we hope that our golfers see a difference! If you like the changes that are taking place, please let us know!

Wickenburg Country Club welcomes - "The Sammy Davis Band" playing Motown Greats from 70's, 80's 90's!

You will not want to miss this event! This is a night of GREAT music, dancing, food and spirits! You will not find a more ENTERTAINING band in Arizona!

Sammy Davis, know as "Sammy D" on the nightclub, hotel, and casino circuit, has been performing with his group, Sammy Davis Band, throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe since 1978.

Love of his work gives him the right stuff that adds energy and the great attitude audiences have come to enjoy. A true entertainer one best described by Allan Beal, #1 Disk Jockey in Kansas City, Kansas, "He is one of the nicest guys to ever play...and is one of the best shows I've ever seen."

Sammy D., originally from Chicago Illinois, has always kept music a part of his life. While playing NCAA college football at Iowa State University, he performed in a band during the off-season. when he was drafted to play professional NFL football, only then was the music put on hold. Always believing in his dreams, he knew he would return to the music world and pursue a musical career.

Sammy has toured with his band throughout Europe, Canada, Alaska, and the lower 48 states. While touring, he was selected by Musician's Magazine as New Artist of the Year. More recently, Sammy was runner-up to Arizona's Entertainer of the Year. Sammy has also had the opportunity to appear with the Emotions, Fats Domino, Bill Cosby, the Temptations, Clint Holms, and the Coasters. For the past five years, the Sammy Davis Band has opened New Year's Eve Gala Events for Mary Wilson and the Supremes, Chubby Checker, Sha Na Na, and Paul Revere and the Raiders.

Sammy's unique ability to involve the audience with his fun loving personality and the band's wide variety of materials from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's has given the Sammy Davis Band the nickname "The Ultimate Party Band".

This happened not too long ago at an area golf course. It was reported that it took paramedics 3 hours to remove the cactus before transporting him to the hospital!

On Wednesday, February 10th, I offered a full day of free 10-minute golf lessons. I had an exceptional turn-out for this event and I would like to thank everyone who signed up! Sunday Couples - February

Super Bowl Tournament Cancelled

Unfortunately, we will have to cancel the Super Bowl Scramble Tournament on Sunday, February 7th.

But.....

We will still be hosting our Super Bowl Watch Party in the bar! For more information, call: (928) 684-2011 ext. 105 and Lea will be more than happy to provide you with more details!

BATTLE OF THE SEXES

We are excited to announce that we will be conducting our first ever "Battle of the Sexes", March 9-10, 2010! This event is open to all Members of Wickenburg Country Club. It's boys against the girls, so rally up your troops and let's see who is best!

In each foursome, we will pair up two men versus two women. One point will be awarded for the front nine match, one point for the back nine and one point awarded for the total. The “gender” with the most points after two rounds wins!

Tuesday, March 9th
8:00 a.m. - Registration and continental breakfast
9:30 a.m. - Shotgun Start / Round 1 – “Four Ball”

Wednesday, March 10th
8:00 a.m. - Continental breakfast
9:30 a.m. - Shotgun Start / Round 2 – “Four Ball”
1:30 p.m. - Cocktails (no-host) and Awards Luncheon

Cost: $40 per person

Note: We must have the same number of players for each team. This will require us to accommodate a first-come-first serve policy. Any extra players on either team will be alternates in case of a “no show” or cancellation.

Impact Position

If you enjoy following players on the PGA Tour, you have seen many different styles of golf swings. From the flat swing of Lee Trevino to the "loopy" swing of Jim Furyk to the "athletic" swing of Tiger Woods, all three of these styles have been successful. How can all of these contrasting golf swings provide such great results? The one thing they all have in common is in their impact position: the club handle is in FRONT of the ball at impact.
Remember: the golf ball doesn't know or care who you are. The golf ball does not care what you do in your backswing, nor does it care how good you look at the finish position. The only thing the ball cares about is what happens at impact: that split-second moment when the clubface touches the ball.

If you were to look at still photos of PGA Tour golf swings at impact, you would see the handle of the golf club is slightly ahead (left) of the ball. This is the way the golf club was designed to be used. If the handle of the golf club is forward at impact with the back of the left hand flat, you will be promoting so many good things. The number one benefit is hitting the sweet spot more often. This also promotes striking the golf ball at the bottom of the swing arc thus creating more power or leverage. This will also promote a downward motion into the golf ball creating a more proper divot after the ball and more backspin. Finally, it will keep the club face more square through impact therefore improving your accuracy.

If your handle is behind the ball at impact, it creates a lifting effect which is essentially taking the job away from that expensive golf club you are holding. It's the club's job to make the ball go up in the air, not our job to "lift" the ball or swing up on it.

So, how do you apply this to your golf swing? The first thing you need to do is resemble this impact position at address. Regardless of the ball position or what club you are using (except for the putter) the handle of the club should start just inside the left thigh. This puts the handle of the club in FRONT of the ball (for right handed players) with the exception of the driver because the ball position is left in your stance. Now, your objective is to return to that angle at impact. A great practice technique is to hit "half" shots and then working your way up to a full swing again.

Immitate what you see the pros doing, practice this position, create this powerful angle at impact and watch your ball contact become more consistent!
